We have here a further account of Jehu’s carrying out the task God had given him.
1. He cut off all of Ahab’s sons (2 Kings 10:1-10).
2. He cut off all of Ahab’s family and close relatives (2 Kings 10:11-14, 17).
3. He attacked Ahab’s idolatry. He made Jonadab, a man who feared God, witness his zeal against Baal worship (2 Kings 10:15-16). Then he called all the worshipers of Baal to gather together (2 Kings 10:18-23), killed them all (2 Kings 10:24-25), and afterward destroyed that idol worship from Israel (2 Kings 10:26-28).
The chapter then gives a short account of Jehu’s rule.
1. The older idolatry in Israel, the worship of the calves, was still kept up (2 Kings 10:29-31).
2. Because of this, God’s judgments came on Israel through Hazael, and the chapter ends with those judgments (2 Kings 10:32-36).
