Here is the character of a good person, which is the work of God’s grace in him. He is God’s servant, under God’s law and used in God’s work. He is devoted to the fear of God, given over to God’s direction and use, and taken up with high thoughts of God and with every act of worship that helps bring God glory.

Those are truly God’s servants who, though they still have weaknesses and failings, are sincerely devoted to the fear of God. Their desires and actions are ruled by that fear. They are committed to religion and attached to it.

Here is also the confidence a good person has toward God, based on God’s gracious word. Those who are God’s servants may pray in faith and humble boldness that God would establish his word to them. That means they ask God to keep his promises in his time, and in the meantime to assure them that those promises will be fulfilled. What God has promised, we should pray for. We do not need to ask for more than he has promised, and we should not ask for less.
