There are wonderful things in God’s law that everyone should want to see. These are not just strange and surprising things, but excellent things that should be treasured. They are things that were hidden from the wise and learned, but are now made known to humble hearts. If there were wonders in the law, there are even more in the gospel, where Christ is everything, and whose name is Wonderful.
We should strongly desire to see these wonderful things, because even the angels long to look into them (1 Peter 1:12). But anyone who wants to see the wonders of God’s law and gospel must ask God to open their eyes and give them understanding. By nature, we are blind to the things of God until his grace removes that blindness. Even those in whom God has already said, “Let there be light,” still need more light and must keep praying for fuller sight.
At first, a person may only see dimly, like people who see men as trees walking, but God can help them see clearly. The more God opens our eyes, the more wonders we will see in his word, things we did not notice before.
