Here we see, first, David’s grief over the wickedness of the wicked. Though he spent much of his life at home, he still looked around him at times, and he could not help but see evil people everywhere. He saw those who openly broke God’s law, and it hurt him to watch them dishonor God, serve Satan, corrupt the world, and destroy their own souls. It grieved him to see so many of them, so bold, so shameless, and so eager to drag unstable people into their traps.
Anyone who cares about God’s honor and people’s good will feel that kind of sorrow. Second, we see why David was so upset. He was not troubled because they were annoying to him, but because they were offending God. They did not keep God’s word. Those who truly hate sin hate it because it is sin, because it breaks God’s law and rejects his word.
