David shows his deep love for God’s word. “Your servant loves it.” Every good person, as God’s servant, loves the word of God because it reveals the Master’s will and guides the work the Master gives. Where grace is present, there is a warm attachment to God’s word.
He also gives the reason for that love. He loves it because it is very pure. Our love for God’s word shows our love for God when we love it for its purity, because it reflects God’s holiness and is meant to make us share in that holiness. The word calls for purity, and because it is free from every corrupt mix, it can also cleanse us if we receive it with light and love. It helps remove the dross, the worthless waste, of worldliness and fleshly thinking.
