This verse shows the foolishness of people who try to get rich by dishonest means. They oppress others, cheat them in business, lie in court, or use fraud in contracts. Some think they can lie whenever there is money to gain, but that path is full of sin and danger.
They may pile up wealth this way, and call it their treasure, but they will not get the satisfaction they expect. It is only a fading thing, full of disappointment and trouble of heart. They will have no real comfort in it, and they cannot trust it. Their own consciences will keep troubling them, and other people will also condemn them, so they will live in constant unrest.
Worse than that, they will meet a destruction they never planned for. While they are chasing unlawful gain, they are really courting death. Their wealth will stir up the envy and anger of others, and their lying tongues will bring down God’s wrath and curse. In the end, God will make their own sin fall back on them and ruin them.
