auto_stories Bible Guided Commentary

Here, first, is the making of the golden altar, where incense was burned every day. This pictured both the prayers of God’s people and the intercession of Christ, that is, his helping and pleading for them before God, which gives their prayers their acceptance and success. The rings, poles, and every part of this altar were overlaid with gold, just like the vessels of the table and the lampstand, because these were used in the holy place.

God is best, and we should serve him with the best we have. Yet even the best service we can offer him here on earth is only like bronze when compared with the gold of the sinless and perfect service his people will give him in heaven.

Here, second, is the preparing of the incense that was burned on this altar, along with the holy anointing oil (Exodus 37:29), according to the directions already given (Exodus 30:22 and following). God taught Bezalel this skill as well. So even though he had not learned it before, he made these things in the exact way an apothecary, a person who prepares medicines and ointments, would do. When God gives wisdom and grace, he makes a servant of God fully able and ready for every good work.
