For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

We have here, first, an angel proclaiming Babylon’s fall (Revelation 18:1-2). Babylon here stands for the great evil power opposed to God. Second, we are told why she falls, namely, because of her sins (Revelation 18:3).
Third, there is a warning to all who belong to God to come out of her, so they will not share in her judgment (Revelation 18:4-5). They are also called to take part in her destruction, in the sense of joining God’s justice against her downfall (Revelation 18:6-8). Fourth, we see the great sorrow of those who had shared deeply in her sinful pleasures and profits (Revelation 18:9-19).
Fifth, we see the great joy of others when they witness her final ruin, a ruin beyond recovery (Revelation 18:20 and following).
