Therefore the king of Israel gathered together of prophets four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall we go to Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for God will deliver it into the king's hand.
But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might enquire of him?

What our Lord Jesus said to Paul (Acts 26:16) fits Ezekiel well too. The same Jesus is speaking here to Ezekiel and says, “Rise and stand on your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister.” This vision was meant to ordain Ezekiel to his work. It was not given to satisfy his curiosity with unusual sights, but to prepare him for active service.
Here we see three things. First, Ezekiel is sent as a prophet to the house of Israel, who were then captives in Babylon, and he is to deliver God’s messages to them from time to time (Ezekiel 2:1-5). Second, he is warned not to be afraid of them (Ezekiel 2:6). Third, he is told what to say, and words are put into his mouth through the vision of a scroll that he is told to eat (Ezekiel 2:7-10). In the next chapter, we find that he did eat it.
